Britton wood is a privately owned woodland that is now under new ownership. The landowner has a long term conservation plan to manage the woodland with a view to the selective removal of the non native larch trees and replace them with native broad leaf trees in accordance with, and on advice of the Forestry Commission and the Countryside Ranger service. The woodland will be cleared of fallen trees and some of the holly will be removed to make the woodland more open. This is to encourage growth of ground plants and encourage wildlife to use the wood.
No more than 10% of the trees will be removed.
The few trees that have been taken down at the entrance area, and the gravel that has been laid is to enable vehicles to be brought off the road for safety and maintenance of the woodland.
The new landowner does NOT intend to restrict or affect the rights of the local residents who use the footpaths for dog walking and recreation, but would like to point out that access to the wood is granted on the understanding that the public abide by the conditions set out on the sign boards located around the wood.
There will be a plan put in place to install bird feeding stations and also there will be benches placed around the wood to allow walkers to rest and take in the beauty of the wildlife and surroundings.
